J.K. Rowling

Famous for the "Harry Potter" series, J.K. Rowling remained a prominent author. She has also written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith for the Cormoran Strike series. (seven books published between 1997 and 2007). As of 2022, J.K. Rowling's net worth is an estimated £820 million, or around $1.1 billion, per The Sunday Times. J.K. Rowling first had the idea for Harry Potter while delayed on a train travelling from Manchester to London King's Cross in 1990. Over the next five years, she began to plan out the seven books of the series.

Stephen King

A prolific author of horror, supernatural fiction, and suspense novels. His works have been adapted into numerous films and TV series. Probably the most recognizable author living today, King has written 63 novels, 120 short stories, 20 novellas, and five non-fiction books. Many of his stories have been adapted into some of Hollywood's greatest hits, such as The Shining, Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, and It. There is no clear front-running candidate who bumps Stephen King from the top position of “the list.”
